Whole milk, cheese, and meat consumption should be limited. These products tend to be high in fat. When consuming dairy or meat products, skim milk and lean meats are better choices. When cooking, use oil sparingly.
Foods high in soluble fiber are a good choice. These would include oats, legumes, and pectin in fruit. If eating canned fruits, be sure to choose those that are not in heavy syrup as they will be high in high fructose corn syrup and calories.

Alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and spirits are also high in carbohydrates and calories. Caffeine intake should also be limited as it stimulates the production of adrenaline. This is detrimental to a low hypoglycemic diet.
A low hypoglycemic diet should also involve eating smaller, more frequent meals. It helps manage hypoglycemia so that glucose enters into the blood stream in smaller doses. Skipping meals is not good for controlling blood glucose levels. It is a good idea to eat foods high in protein with each meal. If you are away at work, school, or traveling, be prepared with meals and snacks to help you eat healthy and stick with a low hypoglycemic diet.
